NBC 4 New York celebrated the launch of the new pilot Cause Celeb at the MSNBC Digital Café of the NBC Experience Store located at 30 Rock on Thursday, March 3rd. The series introduces celebrities and highlights their philanthropic work.
The program kicked off with remarks by NBC 4’s General Manager Michael Jack and show host Cat Greenleaf. Celebrity Rosie Perez, who serves as the Urban Arts Partnership’s Artistic Board Chair and Philip Courtney, the organization’s Executive Director, were also on hand. It was a full house for the premiere of Cause Celeb with the likes of Alan Cummings, Tutan Reyes and Keith Shocklee in attendance.
The pilot follows two high school students as they complete the Fresh Prep course designed to help them study for and pass the New York City Regents exams. The pilot episode was moving and inspiring, capturing Rosie’s passion and the impact of Fresh Prep through the eyes of two students and the people who support them.
The evening ended on a high-energy note, with guest performer Sadat X and Fresh Prep composer Sam Sellers, aka Rabbi Darkside, taking the stage to perform original tracks featured in Cause Celeb.
